To wrap up National Safety Month, we would like to highlight another member of our safety team. Chad Davies, Safety Engineer has been influential to our program with his efforts in recycling. He has sought national recyclers for most construction materials on our job sites.

“I have a lifetime in construction. I grew up in Ohio building houses with my father as a young boy and through my teenage years,” said Chad. After college, Chad says that he wore all the different hats in construction - carpet installer, framer, roofer, plumber, electrician, superintendent to owning his own company as a General Contractor for 14 years. “A couple of years ago I had a very bad injury to my shoulder that required surgery on five (5) different areas of my shoulder. I was forced into a lot of down time and decided it was time to get my resume out there. I found this to be a great opportunity to expand my horizons and experience, so I looked into safety.” Chad saw safety as a great way to advance his experience, driving his career forward in the construction industry. This was when he found GCON and knew it was the perfect fit for him.

While Chad enjoys what he does, he says it can have its challenges, “It’s these challenges that make the job interesting. Building the respect of the workers on site is the most rewarding part of the job. There are always going to be workers that are not following protocol, not paying attention, or are just having a bad day. Being able to approach these situations and turn them into a positive is a skill that safety personnel need to have.” The best part of the day for Chad is being able to send his crews home just as they arrived, “Knowing that everyone is going home at the end of the day with no injuries, and no incidents because of the solid safety program and support you are a part of brings great satisfaction.”

Something that Chad learned very early on was that the perception of safety personnel could be seen as ‘Safety Police’, “This presents a big challenge when making sure that the subs and their workers are following the protocol. I was lucky to have been mentored by Martin Lopez, Jim Bracke, Jesse Meneses
