What does it take to build a more inclusive construction industry? Honest conversation is a good place to start.
Last week, GCON hosted Same Sites, Different Stories, an industry panel focused on LGBTQ+ inclusion in construction. The panel explored the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ professionals, the perspective of allyship and the barriers that still exist in a tradition-bound industry.
We`re grateful to our panelists for their candor, to our industry partners for showing up, and to the GCON team for helping create the kind of space where these productive conversations can happen.
Belonging is everyone`s responsibility and the work doesn`t stop when the panel ends.

Elevate is officially in full swing — and this year`s cohort is our biggest yet.
22 interns have joined GCON this summer, contributing on projects across Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Texas.
GCON`s Elevate Internship Program is a 12-week immersive experience that goes well beyond shadowing. Interns work hands-on across every department, build real relationships with teammates, subcontractors and clients, and contribute to the projects that shape our work.
It`s a program with roots: what started eight years ago with just two interns (both are full-time GCON employees!) has grown into a structured launchpad for the next generation of builders.
We`re proud to invest in people who want to learn and grow — and across four states this summer, that investment is bigger than ever.
A look back at a project we`re proud of: Sun Health Colonnade Campus expansion in Surprise, AZ.
GCON expanded living capacity to The Colonnade, one of Sun Health`s Life Plan Communities serving older adults in the West Valley.
Our scope included a 23,700-square-foot expansion that added:
▪️23 new Assisted Living resident rooms
▪️ A multi-purpose room
▪️ A fitness room
▪️ Offices and support spaces
Our partnerships with Sun Health facilities, construction and leadership teams were excellent throughout, making this a project of true collaboration. We are proud to know that this space will bring comfort and care to its residents.

There’s a different kind of pride that comes with building something that directly shapes futures.
The West-MEC Career Academy at Agua Fria is a 31,000 SF four-building campus built for workforce development. It houses technical training environments and specialized labs for electrical, HVAC, welding, and diesel technology, all designed to replicate real industry environments.
From a construction standpoint, this project pushed our team! It required fast-tracked six-month delivery, complex sequencing, and 18 permits to keep momentum moving!
But standing on site now, seeing students training in those spaces is a reminder that great construction isn’t just about what we build, but who it serves.
Grateful to be part of a project that strengthens the workforce pipeline in our own community. Get ready for Phase II!
Last week`s GCON Gives Annual Golf Tournament was an incredible success!
