Organized by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Women in Construction (WIC) Week is the first full week of March and aims to highlight and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in the construction industry. The week serves as a platform to raise awareness about the opportunities available to women in construction and to address the challenges they face in a traditionally male-dominated field. During 2024 WIC Week, on Wednesday, March 6, the women of GCON came together for a day filled with networking and team building.
The day started in the Biltmore area with a job site tour of the newest Arizona Kidney Disease and Hypertension Center (AKDHC), which GCON is building. They interacted with the project team, observed firsthand the progress of the project, and gained an understanding of some of the challenges faced on the site and how the team overcame them.
After the tour, the group participated in a team-building event led by Arizona Budokan. The introduction to self-defense course taught awareness, using your voice, and techniques to protect and remove yourself from the situation.
Following the team-building, the group enjoyed lunch and networking with other women in the company to discuss the importance and need for women in the construction industry and reflect on an extraordinary day with fellow women representing the construction industry.
