This week is Construction Inclusion Week, a week dedicated to highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the construction industry. GCON strives to build a team that is made up of individuals from a variety of backgrounds, gender, age and race. This week we hope to go beyond spreading awareness about the importance of diversity and share our equity and inclusion strategies.
Having inclusive leaders taking charge of team initiatives is a game changer in the construction industry. At GCON, our leaders allow team members to speak up and share their differing thoughts and opinions on work projects. In construction, we work closely together, meaning internal trust is crucial. Last week GCON attended the groundbreaking for our new project at Sun Health Assisted Living at the Colonnade. This $8M project will consist of a 23,700 SQ FT extension to the already beautiful facility located in Surprise, AZ. GCON was honored to hear from the Mayor of Surprise, Skip Hall, facility residents and members of the Sun Health board. Also, in attendance were GCON’s CEO & Co-Founder, Mike Godbehere, VP of Development & Construction, Michael F. D’Andrea and Healthcare Project Executive, Alan Swain.

We have been lucky enough to be on the Arizona State University campus twice in the last week, both for amazing events!
First, we had an incredible time at the ASU Construction Management Career Fair last Thursday, where we had a wonderful opportunity to connect with talented students and share insights about the construction industry and our upcoming internship program. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and engaged with us. We look forward to seeing some of you join our team in the future! A special thanks to Timothy Becker and Matthew Eicher for always being such amazing hosts!
Our second event took place Monday night where our CEO and Co-Founder, Mike Godbehere, and Talent Acquisition Specialist, Jenna Everist, guest lectured at the Del E. Webb School of Construction on the topic “Ethics in the Construction Industry”. Mike shared on his extensive experience and insights on maintaining ethical standards. It was an inspiring session that emphasized the importance of integrity and ethical practices in construction and deciding what those lines are for each individual. Thank you, Matthew Pierce for having us, and a huge thank you to the ASU students for your engagement! It was a great discussion, and we wish you the best of luck on the rest of your semester!

When we think of risks at our jobs, we usually think of physical dangers like falls, equipment accidents, etc. But we often skip over the dangers people can’t see. Anxiety, depression, and thoughts of suicide are just as risky for worker safety.
A 2020 study showed that 83% of construction workers have faced a mental health issue, and the construction industry has the highest suicide rate of any industry, with 53 suicides per 100,000 workers.
At GCON, mental health is just as important as wearing your daily safety gear! We strive to create a place where everyone is comfortable asking for help.

This panel was aimed at Subcontractors and General Contractors who want to incorporate training programs into their businesses.
